By popular demand, I'm posting the rest of the pictures and the story behind them.
On May 3rd, 2004, I heard some buzzing and fluttering in my garage. The garage door was open in the afternoon and when I went into the garage, I heard the commotion. Sometimes a bird or large fly will make its way into the garage and get trapped there. When I saw this little fella, I was sure it was a cicadia or locust because the news reports are saying this is the year for the 17-Year locusts to make their appearance.
When I saw it was just a hummingbird hovering in the garage, I actually caught him in mid-air and took him outside to let him go. I opened my hand and waited for him to fly away. He didn't want to leave....just sat perched on my finger looking at me.
So....I went over to my truck where I kept my digital camera, an Olympus C-3030. I carry it everywhere I go as you can see by some of the other pictures on this website. I had a friend take the first picture. It was set for flash and I didn't want that. There was enough natural light. So I managed to take the camera in my other hand, turn the flash off, and continued to take other pictures. The results follow. You will notice the bright colored red bib in some of the pictures. The bib is reflective and the angle of the sun created the red reflection.
He finally flew away and no harm was done.
Just for the fun of it I decided to post one of the pictures to WeatherUnderground. Little did I know it would create such a response. I have received dozens of emails from people enjoying the picture I posted. I have decided to post the rest of the pictures here for your enjoyment.
Special note: Some of the pictures on this website I took of the Shenandoah Valley caught the promoters of Cracker Barrel and some of the pictures will be soon released and available in the gift shop in postcard form in the Cracker Barrels here in the Shenandoah Valley, Winchester, Virginia.
